Listen: Kendrick Lamar's "Redemption" ft. Zacari & Babes Wodumo (Black Panther OST)

Ryan Coogler's Afrocentric, Afrofuturistic take on the super-hero genre is that fresh infusion of blood Hollywood badly needs, and a welcome respite from the formula driven films that the industry has been so hell-bent on forcing down our throats in recent years. It just goes on to show how even the most familiar of stories can be used to narrate a new kind of story steeped in purposeful blackness that embraces its cultural heritage and identity proudly, and give its characters enough nuance to make them stand apart, as real people with real problems who have have to do whatever it takes in order for their voices to be heard. But listening to Redemption makes it even more exhilarating, not just because the second collaboration of Kendrick Lamar and Zacari rocks, but because the fusion of electronic soul, hip-hop and afrobeat is pure euphoria.
