Listen: Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do"

Pop songs today are engineered to perfection, like as if they are designed with the aid of a mathematical equation or a precision tool to score a top hit. Sometimes it works, but more often than not, it doesn't. And the latest example is Taylor Swift's Look What You Made Me Do, an insipid diss track from her to-be-released new album reputation. "I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams/ I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now... 'cause she's dead!," raspily howls Swift over a synthpop framework complete with a catchy pre-chorus, while not so subtly referencing an edgy image makeover. It feels all too familiar, derivative and cringe-worthy. Listen below -
