Facebook has 2 billion monthly active users, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced today, making it the first and largest ever social network to hit the milestone. The fact that Facebook is still growing more than 13 years after its founding shows its reach, and gives an insight into why its other equally popular services like Instagram (700 million MAU), Facebook Messenger (1.2 billion MAU) and WhatsApp (1.2 billion MAU) are growing at a rapid pace. Facebook's colossal user base is also an indication as to why the company recently changed its mission "to bring the world closer together," thereby underscoring its heightened need to function as a platform for meaningful engagement.
