Book Review: Outside Looking In

Outside Looking In
A call for help in the night stirs an elderly George Rainsford to get out and inspect, only to stumble across a bloodbath of sorts. A man has been viciously murdered and the woman, mercilessly beaten and left for dead. The two are married, but not to each other, and with their respective spouses professing no knowledge of the affair and no solid leads to take the investigation forward, DCI Matilda Darke and her team hit a dead end. Until startling connections to a random suicide and a spate of burglaries in the city reveal a pattern to the ongoing madness, leading to several unexpected twists and turns before all is unravelled in a superb climax. Ingeniously plotted and well-written, Michael Wood spins a yarn that deftly ties all the different threads of the story and delivers on all fronts.
