Heavy Rotation: Blue States, Chris Farren, The Menzingers & More

A list some of my favourite songs from this week...

Restless Spheres (Blue States) - As an electro-ambient project led by Andrew Dragazis, Restless Spheres is aptly calming, placid and, if I may say so, probably the best song to drift away to sleep.

Still Beating (Chris Farren) - For a song about a friendship that's run its course, Still Beating is sure very exuberant!

Drawn (De La Soul ft. Little Dragon) - A smooth, jazzy affair that's both interesting and intoxicatingly smooth.

Some Places (Grapnell) - Swedish duo Emil Erstrand and Nils Nygårdh let loose a smooth saxophone-laced instrumental that's outright sexy!

In Your Sleep (Kuedo ft. Hayden Thorpe) - A seductive slow-burner adorned by slinky, synth-laden sounds.

Mispronounced (Liam Betson) - Utterly melodious and symphonic, former Titus Andronicus guitarist Liam Betson's newest single from his upcoming second album Austerity Measures is a hands-down winner, enveloping the listener in a swirl of stunning atmospherics.

Closer (Modern inventors ft. Daru Jones) - Employing the percussive services of drummer Daru Jones, Modern Inventors concoct a lovely piece of serene, free-floating psychedelia that's fuelled further by a hypnotic bassline.

Lookers (The Menzingers) - Nostalgia (I was such a looker in the old days, the line goes at one point) can be a powerful emotion, and The Menzingers deliver an equally punchy anthem of sorts with Lookers.

Fast Silver (TOY) - Gauzy guitar lines rule this psychedelic grunge-rock piece from UK-based psych-rock outfit TOY.

Other notable listens of the week - Johanna Warren's Hungry Ghost, Mallrat's Tokyo Drift, Steve Hauschildt's Strands, The Dean Ween Group's Mercedes Benz, The Gaslamp Killer's Residual Tingles, The White Stripes' City Lights, Weyes Blood's Seven Words.
