Movie Review: Theri (Tamil)

Theri
Theri, or is it Yennai Arindhaal Part 2? Or is it Baashha? Or Chatriyan? For actor Vijay's latest mass vehicle of a film is an exercise in predictability. Not to mention, figuring out which plot point was rehashed from which film. And that's not because director Atlee's screenplay checks all the boxes about a typical masala potboiler. But because we, as audience, are shrewd enough, and keep checking the said boxes ahead of him. Granted, we go to these movies expecting to be entertained (more than look for lapses in logic), anticipating those what we call fan moments that play to the gallery, sending fans into exultations of delirious joy and jubiliation. But the bigger question is where are they? And why are they so jaded, lacking in theri (as in spark)? And why is the antagonist all noise and no substance? And why bother with such disposable female characters? And why are the songs so terrible? I could go on and on, but Theri as a film could not have been more boring and dull.
