Music Review: Dil Dhadakne Do (Hindi)

Composer(s): Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy

The title song is groovy, riding very well on Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's brass-filled arrangements and a superb chorus, but having Farhan Akhtar croon the track was certainly not the best idea. Priyanka Chopra on the other hand fares better. Gallan Goodiyaan is mildly evocative of Kajra Re (Bunty Aur Babli) and yet sails through pretty well, thanks to its infectious hook and Shankar Mahadevan's superlative singing. (The hook, by the way, reminded me of the devotional song Govinda Hari Govinda. Or is it just me?) Sunidhi Chauhan is her usual sprightly self in the fast-paced jazz number Girls Like to Swing, while Divya Kumar ably leads the way in the contemplative guitar-laden Phir Bhi Yeh Zindagi. Pehli Baar rounds off the soundtrack, benefiting quite well from an appealing soft-rock base, and Siddharth Mahadevan and Sukriti Kakkar's neat rendition. Dil Dhadakne Do, perhaps an eponymous nod to the song from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, isn't half as good as the latter, and leaves you underwhelmed.
