Kurunthogai sees V. V. Prasanna and Sonia handling with finesse the stunning folksy melody and Yuvan's arrangements too complement the tune beautifully. Eerakkaathae, in addition to having the composer's distinct touches, is breezy (that flute!) in Senthildass and Anitha's vocals. Lyricist Vairamuthu's poignant lyrics find their perfect foil in the moody piece Endha Vazhi and its other variant Atthuvaana Kaatukku. Although Vaikom Vijayalakshmi pulls off a heartfelt rendition of the former, Yuvan makes a mess of the latter with his scratchy singing. Andony Dasan and Priyadarshini's rustic vocals powers the highly rhythmic percussion-heavy folk number Vaiyambatti, its more than passing resemblance to Ennodu Vaa (Thirudan Police) notwithstanding. Sriram Parthasarathy hits all the right notes with the uplifting melody Kondaatamae and Vairamuthu's word play once again deserves a special mention. Idam Porul Yaeval is earthy, soulful and a solid musical effort from Yuvan Shankar Raja.
