Movie Review: The Lego Movie (English)

I know it's only February, but you know what? Let's say hello to the best animation movie of 2014! As much dismissive as I was about The Lego Movie being a great marketing gimmick for the Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene toys and the brand altogether, what I didn't anticipate was that the makers actually managed to do something awesome out of it! Now isn't that awesome? Yes, it is. Everything. About. The. Movie. Is. AWESOME!

The story of a nobody who saved everybody is so heartwarming that you can't help but root for the endearing characters in their 'apocalyptic' adventure. The film's all encompassing message, that's to unleash your creative potential and be willing to do your liking without having to follow any set of instructions, beautifully goes hand in hand with Lego's interlocking plastic blocks that can be assembled in a myriad number of ways to build various playthings.

Lego's iconic toys are an integral part of many's childhood days (that includes me too!) and to say that the movie was a visual stunner would be an understatement. There's plenty of spectacle - explosions, chases and brilliantly executed action sequences, all done in gorgeous eye-popping 'brick' style! One particular scene that deserves a special mention is the rendering of ocean waves as a series of blue and white Lego bricks. It's simply awesome!

And just as you begin to think all this is harmless entertainment, it is revealed that the entire movie is a figment of a boy's imagination who is playing with his dad's off-limits Lego collection! That the script writers put so much heart to a simple story is enough to leave your eyes a bit misty. Forget that The Lego Movie is for kids. It is witty, smart and will warm the cockles of your heart. Kudos to the makers for thinking out of the box!
