Music Review: Jannal Oram (Tamil)

Composer(s): Vidyasagar
Film: Jannal Oram

Composer Vidyasagar returns once again in Tamil with his own last year's Malayalam hit Ordinary, of which this film is a remake. Ennadi Ennadi Oviyame, while no patch on Sun Sun Sundhari, has a similar free-flowing mellifluous tune - the beats employed in the first interludes are the same in fact — and has Tippu and Vishal perfectly complementing the track with their vocals. Unna Pakkama is the sort of simple, yet ear-friendly melody that Vidyasagar concocts for your listening pleasure, while the interestingly arranged Aasa Vecha Mansula has that unmistakable Ilaiyaraaja stamp one normally associates with Vidyasagar's. Yela Mela Thopa's pensive tune is marvelously backed by Anuradha Sriram and Velmurugan, as the kids chorus Athili Puthili retains the same tune of the original's Chenthamara. Aatho Appatho has a rustic villu paatu charm, and serves as a nice introduction to the characters in the movie. A Vidyasagar and Karu Pazhaniappan combination has always been looked forward to with great expectation, and Jannal Oram doesn't disappoint!
