Movie Review: The Avengers

Superhero films have always been about the good vs evil battles, but Marvel Comics and director Joss Whedon take this a step further by throwing in a mix of these heavyweights in an action spectacle that keeps you glued to your seats till the end. To cut a long story short, when banished Norse god Loki runs away with a powerful energy resource, the Tesseract, and declares war on earth, Nick Fury, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. initiates the Avengers program by assembling a superhero team, bringing together Ironman, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye.

But being superheroes in their own right, they first have to iron out the egos and differences amongst themselves before they battle their common enemy and save the earth from doomsday. With fantasy films, there's a willing suspension of disbelief and the trick is to not overdo it. Joss Whedon, a Marvel fan himself, knows his craft clearly and having established the characters' backstories separately in Hulk, Thor and Ironman, Marvel's latest offering unites them all together in an epic fight against Loki to save mankind. Running at 143 odd minutes, The Avengers is a thoroughly smart, humorous and spectacular superhero flick. Trust me, saving the world can't get this stylish and cool!
