Book Review: Death in the Clouds

Death in the
Clouds
Private investigator Hercule Poirot, along with 10 other passengers, are aboard the airliner Prometheus, due to depart to Croydon from Paris. But it's as if death is a mere phone call away. For just minutes prior to the arrival at the destination, the stewards discover that one of the travellers, a Madame Giselle, is dead. With all other co-passengers denying themselves of any involvement in the murder, Poirot joins hands with Inspector Japp and Monsieur Fournier of the French Surete to crack the baffling case. With an atmospheric backdrop and a thoroughly engaging set of characters who are all equally likely to have committed the murder, Death in the Clouds makes for an exciting read. Christie throws in enough red-herrings to divert the reader's attention from the obvious, despite practically giving away all the clues and character sketches. The confined setting reminds one of The Mystery of the Blue Train and Murder on the Orient Express and she succeeds immensely in telling a truly ingenious and compelling whodunit. A thrilling ride!
