The A. R. Rahman-sung title track is just as jubilantly exuberant as Mental Manadhil even if the retrofitting of lyrics is at times jarring. Accompanied by the voices of Arjun Chandy, Neeti Mohan and Savithri R. Prithvi, Jee Lein is delightfully hypnotic, faithfully recreating Theera Ulaa's trance-like synth-laden soundscape. Rahman doesn't deviate much in Maula Wa Salim and Kaara Fankaara either, the former working well as a serenely delicate sufi prayer sung by A. R. Ameen, and the latter, a wacky techno-rap frenzy in Hard Kaur, Aaryan Dinesh Kanagaratnam and Shashaa Tirupati's enthusiastic rendition.

For the Naane Varugiraen-equivalent Saajan Aayo Re, Rahman hands over the singing reins to an impressive Jonita Gandhi (it comes as no surprise to me given how well she sang it at the Intimate Concert in New York City back in May 2015), while giving Shashaa Tirupati, the original singer, Sunn Bhavara, an exceptional tabla-driven Hindustani composition that she delivers without a hitch.

Enna Sona is perhaps a tad too Bollywood even by Rahman standards, but the melancholic guitary melody passes muster in Arijit Singh's heartfelt vocals. Badshah and Tanishk Bagchi, for their part, remix Hamma Hamma, the result ending up being an utterly forgettable improv that serves no real purpose whatsoever. And the lesser said about the rap interlude the better. Shashaa Tirupati and Jonita Gandhi come out flying high in this Hindi adaptation of O Kadhal Kanmani, a soundtrack that otherwise works better in Tamil.
