Listen: Calvin Harris' "This is What You Came For" ft. Rihanna

Remember what Rihanna said on Consideration, her ANTI album-opener? "Let me cover your shit in glitter/ I can make it gold, gold..." Which was Rihanna stating she has a Midas touch, that whatever she lays her finger on can turn into instant gold. Well, one only needs to look at the singles she is featured on to understand why she casually asserts this truth, like only she can in typical RiRi style. Not only have they gone on to become massive surefire hits, her sultry vocals imparted those songs with a unique personality and style that's hard to miss. Which is why Calvin Harris's latest single This is What You Came For is in part disappointing. Which is frankly what I not I came for!

The mid-tempo EDM track taps into a softer, house beat, unlike their previous anthemic, arena-rocking collaborations We Found Love and Where Have You Been that catapulted Calvin Harris to the big leagues. And just as the Scottish DJ builds it to an inevitable climactic drop, he does something different, eschewing the usual EDM loops for a subdued synthetic tropical house flavour that you'll either grow to love or hate. Whether you approve of the sonic decision or not, the bigger question is why he wasted Rihanna's vocals on a song that's so generic. However it's not all for the Barbadian singer, for she is also featured on the track Too Good from Drake's latest album Views (previously Views from the 6), which you can stream below -
