Heavy Rotation: Achu Rajamani, Charan Raj, Nivas K. Prasanna & More

Revisiting some of my favourites from Achu Rajamani, Charan Raj, Nivas K. Prasanna and more...

Yen Uyirey (Unplugged) (Achu Rajamani, Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey) - I cannot say in words how much I love this ambient melody from Achu, even after all these years. As for Bombay Jayashri, she suffuses the song with so much emotion, it borders on bliss.

Katheyondu Shuruvaagide (Charan Raj, Godhi Banna Sadharna Mykattu) - Charan Raj concocts a stunner of a soundtrack, so diverse and interesting, I am really looking forward to what he comes up with next.

Kellamma Chinnamma, Mamateya Maadilalli (Charan Raj, Mandya to Mumbai) - Charan Raj's musical debut Mandya to Mumbai is very quirky and very different from GBSM, but also has these two terrific compositions, the former, a soothing melody sung by Haricharan, and the latter, a mind-boggling qawwali, with Charan Raj and Ustad Hafiz Khan lending superb vocal purchase.

Eiffel Melay (Gopi Sundar, Thozha) - Gopi Sundar has had his fair share of catchy hits (think Maangalyam), but Eiffel Melay is one of the few folk songs that has got me reaching for the repeat button in the last few days. Amazing fusion, I must say!

Engae Ponaai (Zero, Nivas K. Prasanna) - Yep, you guessed it! Although more than the vocals of Vijay Prakash and Neeti Mohan, it's the delicate arrangements from Nivas that I have fallen hard for. It's sheer poetry!
