Music Review: Oru Vadakkan Selfie (Malayalam)

Composer(s): Shaan Rahman

Shaan Rahman imbues Kaikkottum Kandittilla with a unique blend of dhols and harmonium, making superb use of Vaikom Vijayalakshmi's impactful vocals. The trademark Shaan Rahman melody Neelambalin likewise beautifully employs Kavya Ajit's voice in the background, letting Arun Alat do all the singing. Enne Thallendammaava is fantastically groovy, with all that violins and guitar riffs, and a fun listen despite its Kadhalikum Pennin (Kadhalan) vibe. Paarvanavidhuve's classical fusion is Harish Sivaramakrishnan's show all the way, while Chennai Pattanam is enjoyable Tamil kuthu sung by Vineeth Sreenivasan and Arya Mohandas (It's also the second song to remind me of Kaathala Kaathala's Kaasumela in a month). Shaan himself goes behind the mic for a punchy rock anthem of sorts in the short Yekkam PogavillaiOru Vadakkan Selfie is splendid, just as any other Shaan Rahman's musical outings so far!
