Music Review: CityLights (Hindi)

Muskurane, both in its Romantic and Unplugged versions, has that unmistakable Vishesh Films stamp, yet the former in the voice of Arijit Singh is a winner. Mohammed Irfan's, on the other hand, seems to be trying too hard. The pensive semi-classical Soney Do, again in Arijit's commendable rendition, is hauntingly orchestrated and the soundtrack's best, while his third song Ek Charraiya has a neat folk base, with the composer himself doing an adequate job in its Unplugged variant. Neeti Mohan is at her usual competent self in the melodiously arranged Darbadar, even as Ustad Rashid Khan and Usha Uthup bring in their unique styles in the heady rock-based title song. CityLights is a neat effort from Jeet Gannguli!
