Maelae Maelae is altogether engaging despite evoking A. R. Rahman's Elay Keechaan and Karthik's breezy rendition works in its favour. Anbae Anbae brings Harris frequenter Harish Raghavendra and Harini for a lovely duet that has the composer's stamp all over it. The blend of guitar and ghatam stands out in an otherwise customary folk-driven Sara Sara Saravedi, a song that brings back memories of his own compositions from Saamy and Kovil, while Aalaap Raju brings out his A-game in Vizhiyae Vizhiyae with his top-notch singing. Palakku Devathaiya is another soup song along the lines of Oru Kal Oru Kannadi's Venaam Machaan, symptomatic of a trend that's more grating than anything I've heard in Kollywood music. Harris Jayaraj's orchestration continues to remain his strong point, but the assembly line quality that pervades Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal cannot be shrugged off.
