Music Review: Kadhale Swasam (Tamil)

Composer(s): D. Imman
Film: Kadhale Swasam

Kadhale Swasam, the title song, is absolutely mesmerising, and is as much as showcase for Hariharan and Sujatha's fantastic vocals as it's for Imman's splendid flute-soaked orchestration. Hariharan's admirable rendition once again comes to the fore in the plaintive Manam Valikkuthe, the beautiful arrangements once again sporting the highlight. Sokkuthe Kadhal Sokkuthe's classical flourish notwithstanding, Sonu Nigam and Chithra rock the heady tune with their flawless vocals, while the jazzy-Carnatic fusion that's Groovy Girls works very well in Timmy and Nithyasree Mahadevan's fantastic rendition. Summa Iru, Machi and Rhythm don't quite hit the bull's eye, but the quirky blend of sounds that undergirds them is doubtless unconventional. In what's a promising debut, Kadhale Swasam stands out as one of Imman's best works till date, and it's a crying shame the movie never saw the light of the day.
