Music Review: Vishwaroopam

Music trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, who had earlier worked with Kamal Haasan in Aalavandhan at the start of their career, join hands with the actor-director once again in the upcoming big-budget spy-thriller Vishwaroopam. The title song, in Suraj Jagan's superb vocals, exudes grandeur and works fabulously as a punchy Arabic-rock fusion. The guitar'y Thuppaki Engal Tholile, despite its Don influence, is a very breezy listen and superbly alternates between western and middle-eastern sounds. Benny Dayal is effortless in his singing and the same applies to Kamal himself who aces with a fantastic rendition. Kamal Haasan opens the Hindustani-based Unnai Kaanadhu Naan with a bang, which then proceeds melodiously in the blissful voice of Shankar Mahadevan. The song, an ode to Krishna, sees a gorgeous mix of instruments and is beautifully tuned. Composed along the lines of title song in Anbe Sivam, Anu Vidhaiththa Boomiyile takes your breath away with its soulful tune, backed by fantastic vocal purchase from Alma Ferovic, Nikhil D'Souza and Kamal Haasan. Vairamuthu and Kamal turn up the lyrical charm, but kudos to Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for a fantastic soundtrack that is probably their best work yet. Vishwaroopam is a must listen.
