Music Review: Chittagong

Composers Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy were off the spotlight for the most part this year, but they are back with a bang. Shankar Mahadevan is superlative in the Carnatic-based Bolo Na, with the unobtrusive arrangements aiding the gorgeous melody. Bechayan Sapne, sung beautifully by Abhijeet Sawant, Mahalakshmi Iyer et al, is an ear pleasing folk piece, while the anthemic Jeeney Ki Wajah rides on a brilliant orchestration, as does Ishan, both of which rely on top-notch vocals from the motley group of Aarti Sinha, Bedabrata Pain, Kshitij Wagh, Mani Mahadevan, Pooja Gopalan, Raman Mahadevan and Shreekumar Vakkiyil. The instrumental pieces, The Battle and Inspiration, are no exception, building upon intricate musical layers, complete with grandiose arrangements. After a series of forgettable soundtracks, SEL finally strike a chord with Chittagong.
