Music Review: Barfi!

Mohit Chauhan rocks the title song with his effervescent singing, and the tune is instantly likeable. The reprise variant Ala Barfi!, sung by Swanand Kirkire (who is also the lyricist), is equally endearing. Arranged similar to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara's Khwabon Ke Parindey (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy), Main Kya Karoon is retro'ish and the simplistic free-flowing melody works splendidly, with Nikhil Paul George doing a great job of the singing.

With a spotless rendition by Papon and Sunidhi Chauhan, the soundtrack soars to a musical high in the beautifully orchestrated Kyon. Continuing the old world charm is the peppy and nicely sung Aashiyan, while Rekha Bhardwaj-sung Phir Le Aya Dil goes the ghazal route, with Arijit Singh suitably doing the honours in its soft and immensely soothing reprise version and the dreamy and melodious Saawali Si Raat. Pritam is on a roll this year and Barfi! is simply one of his best; most probably one that will linger in your hearts for a long time to come, like Life in a... Metro.
