Music Review: Ek Tha Tiger

Sajid-Wajid's sole offering, Mashallah, is done-to-death Arabic music and is unexciting and dull for the most part, although Shreya Ghoshal tries as much to salvage it by her phenomenal singing. Sohail Sen does show promise in the Latinate fusion Laapata (K. K., Palak Muchhal) but the overwhelming familiarity is impossible to shake off. Banjaara opens with a tune similar to Dil Gira Dafatan, and Sukhwinder Singh's rendition adds that Dil Haara feel to it. Yet the song, with its addictive Celtic flourishes, works well enough. Saiyaara, featuring a plaintive-if-delectable soundbed and Mohit Chauhan and Tarannum Mallik's heartfelt singing, is splendid, even as Julius Packium dishes out a serviceable instrumental in the form of Tiger Theme. Ek The Tiger is good enough, but leaves you with a sense of wanting more.
